Our heritage

It all began in the 1950s with Ron Clarke, who started his footwear journey at a young age to support his family. Over two decades of experience in retail and manufacturing led to the launch of Ron Clarke Manufacturers Agent in 1972, which has since grown into the present-day Ron Clarke and Sons, based in Collingwood. The business stands as a testament to Ron’s commitment and the Clarke family’s enduring legacy in exceptional footwear. Over the years, Ron Clarke and Sons has created seven leading brands, serving both independent retailers and major stores across Australia and New Zealand.

The next generation

Building on this foundation, the Clarke brothers identified a gap in the market for high-quality, European-made footwear suited to Australian consumers. They set out to create something unique, blending European craftsmanship and style with practicality and comfort for everyday life.

The birth of Sala

Named in honour of a close family friend of Italian heritage, Sala was born. The brand’s first success came with the iconic Erica, a style that set the tone for everything that followed. Today, Sala continues to draw inspiration from Europe, sourcing materials and designs from countries such as Spain, Italy, and Romania. The brand represents timeless style, everyday comfort, and considered craftsmanship.
